Chronicles (-in-verse-) of St. Stephen’s College’s 1st Year BSc Physics (H) Batch 2011-2012
Being the Class Representative of my class at St. Stephen’s- B.Sc. Physics (H) 1st Yr., I had to submit a write-up for my class, describing all my class-mates. And having been against the use of verbose grandiloquence this time, I thought of writing a poem instead…more so some chronicles-in-verse. After a long time I wrote in the aabbccdd… rhyme scheme (sounds childish sometimes but serves the purpose here), having been more inclined to blank verse most of the time otherwise. There is a small error though: Deborah has not been mentioned. That was a mistake and I apologize for it, Deb! Do comment and let me know your views about the poem.
Upon the crimson edifice of Stephania
Has arisen a clique of sorts…
Of Fyjiks Fuchhas, to-be-boffins
With sundry opinions and retorts.
Tackling grad(e)s, βeta noire or the ϒ ray,
With masti and lots of X-centric grey (!)
Going by the EPICs for an Absolute Zero
Feynman’s Caesar, Poincare’s Nero!
Datawind’s Tab may be an empty draught
But Aakash’s Midas touch is all but naught.
Abhay is one Chaotic Nayak (!)
On Lyapunov eddies, in his distinct kayak.
Antony, Nishant, Lalboi earn their feathers
In Messi environs and Hazard-ous weathers!
Our Oriya minstrel: Parichay Da is a cool guy…
At your peril, take him to be another small fry.
Shonreiyo’s world is a dreamy land
Kewl Sachin Sam, let’s start a rock band!
Rajiv, the director, has humor up his sleeves
Ignobel’s not a distant call; is it Jeeves?
Akshit Goyal is a sharp gaming geek
Failure’s not an option for any inquisitor freak!
Fast Ojas’, says his GR, has an octopus’s ‘gait’ (!)
Is fun-loving and mostly in an animated state.
Akshit Thottam has his kurta-esque normal mode
Albin has his likeability quotient as his anti-node.
Presly’s serious and alert, when at work
Amal’s the 99.4% boy…oh! The Young Turk!
Bhanu is quite often enthused to the helm
To gauge the confines of the Vaigyanik realm.
Andriyas is Facebook’s Ezio-Auditare lad
What Gaurav does is more than just a fad.
Motaram and Amit make a formidable pair
Ankit Dhanuka’s kavya-ras’to be handled with care.
Anil Kumar often googles the odd googly ball
To enquire about relativity, Gauss and free-fall!
Pitching the line for physical significance in class
Snigdh cuts through trials with his academic cutlass.
It’s nigh impossible to be a Lin, Bryant or Pierce
But Ankit Yadav’s offensives are fast and fierce.
Athul, brotherly, likes to ponder over his cookie
Vinu Thomas is hardly a rock-climbing rookie!
For Arjun, enterprises are a part of the game…
Speeds past Saagnik with axioms, whence he came.
Vikhyaat is the no-nonsense chap
Heikrujam Prasanjeet knows the resources to tap.
Lokesh and Aman take their tests by the cuff
All about acumen and tact is their stuff…
Lovable, caring and with an innocent mind
Drishya and Jessly are similarly aligned.
Daisy apparently lives up to her name
Juhy is a genial and soft-spoken dame.
Peunika -being clichéd- sweats out her task
Unlike modern hypocrites, has nothing to mask.
Whoever knew Chand was the partying type…
Falcate-grins apart, socializing on Skype…?!
Speaking of lunar cousins, once in a blue moon
Akarshi manifests out of thin air: Oh! A rare boon!
If hiccupping sent Mj on his HIStory-cal run
Namrata’s hiccup laugh’s a Thriller, two times done!
Gemini Capella’s heiress has come-of-age at last
Shreya Arya talks sense; who dare lambaste…?
Like an ingot of radium, Rashika radiates…love,
Her smile’s peerless like the crescent moon (above).
Who can forget Pooja, the pixie of the clan
Confident & positive, she’s not an also-ran.
Nymphea’s probably the most affable of them all
On PJs, in our glum world, not many ROTFLOL…!
Manpreet is a considerate pal for most
Saloni Hyderabadi –evidently- is not from Ivory Coast.
Poor Lenin, Marx and Basu did not see the day
When Urmi Ninad served the communist Parfait!
Coming to the CROs Mrittunjoy and Catherine,
Who finish every task in a manner so pristine…
Catherine is leadership served with a smile
For one so witty and outspoken, she is docile.
MJ’s broth has Llosa, Qubits and Indian politics,
Quiet Easily Done becomes Quantum Electro-Dynamics…
Who can forget the role of a guide
To enlighten young minds without a snide?
Be it Dr. Vyas or Bikram Phookun Sir
They were there when it did matter…
As for us, in a coming-of-age tale,
We chart the plot in some Utopian vale.
Closeted by dreams, guided by most
Ravinous relief…”To Physics!” is our toast.
Reaching our zenith is a must
After all…are we just stellar dust?
